Scagliola - skalˈjəʊlə: is imitation marble or other stone, made of plaster mixed with glue and dyes which is then painted or polished. It is a 17th century technique which is now only used by a few artisans. Patterns can be cut out using a dental drill to facilitate inlay. It is also used for columns in country houses. See how Thomas uses Scagliola for contemporary furniture.
